You are bidding on one Jackson San Dimas USA custom shop hand painted guitar (1987) with matching Jackson case. The paint job is continued from the front to the back with the planet rings pointing directly to the guitar cord jack. Guitar and case are in fantastic shape, almost like they were locked in a time capsule (my closet)! Again this guitar looks like it just came out of your local music store, not a 20+ year old instrument. Other than a tiny bit of wear on the pickup covers and tremolo posts, the body is perfect (like new). This is a full sized "Strat" body guitar. Sound is typical of 80’s era Jacksons with a lot of grind and edginess. There is only one notable defect, a small chip in the finish on the side of the neck that exposed the wood under the clear coat finish. I put some clear urethane lacquer over it, to protect the wood from discoloring, and buffed it down. You can hardly see it (check picture it auction). Also, the ebony fretboard has a few light hairline surface cracks (very hard to see), common with ebony fretboards, even on new guitars. The neck is not original but is a Jackson neck from about 1991 when Jacksons were made in Japan (Chushin Gakki factory still same quality and still expensive). This is the factory in Japan that later became Jackson Stars and not the later Japanese factory that made “budget” Jacksons. The neck to body fit with the new neck is perfect. The original neck had a bound rosewood fret board with the “Shark Tooth” inlays and the white Jackson logo rather than the Abalone finish Jackson logo that it has now.
It is a 25 ½ inch, 22 fret neck with big jumbo frets that are all factory hand dressed with no sharp edges. The fret board is nice and thick and made of genuine Gabon Ebony (keep it oiled!) and not the typical dyed Rosewood to simulate Ebony! If you’re familiar with Jacksons of this era the neck on this guitar is wide flat and thin with offset Abalone dot position markers on the fret board. The Floyd nut is shimmed with a strip of Gabon Ebony (not plastic or metal) for optimum clearance over the first fret.
The original Jackson Tremolo was replaced with a genuine Floyd Rose. The Floyd saddles are shimmed (Floyd stainless shims) to match the neck radius and intonation adjusted with a strobe tuner. The pickups were replaced and active electronics were installed by Geoff Gould, then president and founder of Modulus Graphite guitars in San Francisco. It has an active EMG 85 in the bridge and an EMG 60N in the neck. There is a single master volume and 3-way pickup selector switch. Behind these are three EMG active equalizer circuits. Each has an on-off switch and level knob. From front to back they are a treble EQ, a midrange boost (with a lot of boost!), and an expander EQ that gives an out of phase middle position kind of effect by boosting selected low and high frequencies. The midrange boost is great for lead soloing (can drive the clean channel on most amps into full overdrive!) and is great for transitioning from a "scooped" rhythm tone to a fat cutting lead sound. The strap buttons and metal (not plastic) rear cavity covers are all original Jackson USA.
I bought the guitar in the Summer of 1987 (I think I might still have the original receipt) from Guitar Center in San Jose. It was one of those guitars that hag way up near the ceiling so you can’t touch them, that they bring a ladder over to take down for you.
Please note - A brand new Lithium 9v battery will be included.
UPDATE! - I can confirm that this guitar was originally purchase by me (the only owner) in the summer of 1987. I haven't found my original Guitar Center receipt yet but I have all the Modulus Graphite work orders / receipts (over $400 in parts and work), the earliest receipt is dated 11/14/87. That means this guitar (les neck) is in that grey area where is could be either made in San Dimas California or Ontario California with a San Dimas neck plate.
Payment is due within 3 days of auction close. Buyer to pay $44.95 for Fedex ground shipping with full insurance. No international shipping (includes Canada & military APO's/FPO's) as they don't support delivery confirmation. Please don't ask me to make an exception just for you. Thank you.
